Sondra Sue Blanton Gore, 72, Blacksburg, went to be with Jesus, Thursday, January 28th from her residence, with her family, whom she deeply loved around her. Married for 54 years to her best friend and High School sweetheart, Corbett Cline Gore, Jr. She was the co-owner and Funeral Director of White Columns Funeral Service. Both from Wilmington, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Wells Blanton, Jr. and Evelyn Marjorie Spooner Blanton. Both graduated from New Hanover High School and eventually moved to Charlotte, NC where they were members of Central Church of God. Mom was an Executive Secretary at Lat Purser & Associates for many years. She and dad worked together for most of their married life, beginning Corson Removal Service in Charlotte where they served the local and east coast funeral homes. In 1990 they moved to Blacksburg and she began working at Barclays Bank in uptown Charlotte. After great prayer, they stepped out in faith and began White Columns Funeral Service in 1996 to serve Cherokee County and surrounding areas. While working full time, she later completed her degree from Limestone College through the Block program and had the honor to graduate in 1999, with her son, Joshua who earned his Bachelors. A true servant of the Lord, she served in various capacities and in various times at Central Church of God, Charlotte, NC, Hopewell Baptist Church, SC Foster Care Review Board, Blacksburg Business Association, Blacksburg Booster Club, Blacksburg Primary, Elementary, Middle and High Schools, Blacksburg Middle School and High School FCA, Good News Club, Iron City Ministries and Meals on Wheels. She was also a NC Real Estate Broker. Mom was also a huge sports fan of any team her kids were playing for, most recently being Wofford Men's Basketball. In loving the Lord with all her heart she chose to love everyone and see the best in each individual. Mom intentionally lived her life as a living testimony to God's great love and salvation. Whether through teaching, volunteering, or using her skills and talents, she always sought to bring glory to Him in every word and action. She was always offering hope, through a word of encouragement, prayer, smile or wave.
Her greatest blessing, next to her relationship with Christ, was her husband and family. She and dad have sons; Corbett Cline Gore, III, Joshua Andrew Gore, and daughter Christy Gore Earp and husband, Jimmy. Her grandchildren include Courtney Gore Phillips and husband Alan, Ashley Taylor Gore and fiance Eddie DeLuna, Morgan Earp Garrison and husband, Caleb, Madison Corbin Earp, Merritt McCray Earp, J. Andrew Gore, II, and Jackson Corbett Gore and one great grandchild on the way, "Baby Garrison". Along with her immediate family, she is cherished by sister, Wanda B. Wells, and brother James W. Blanton, Jr. (Joan), Wilmington, NC, brother in law, Jimmy Morgan, Hampstead, NC, Rev. Daniel and Sue Gore, Roseboro, NC and Rev. Ottis and Gail Gore, Fayetteville, NC, many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews. Mom loved many as children and grandchildren, including the Allen, Beam, Stroupe, and Thayer families, especially Wendell Earls.
Mom was also predeceased by sister, Rendia B. Morgan, and infant brother of James, who passed at birth and brother in law, Andy Wells.
To honor mom's legacy a worship service will be held Sunday, January 31st, 2:30 pm at Hopewell Baptist Church, with Revs. Eddie Bolin and Jimmy Earp giving encouragement.
