Jessie McDaniel Obituary

Jessie Elmore McDaniel of 1148 Ninety-Nine Island Road, Blacksburg, South Carolina, left this world and entered Heaven’s gates on December 22, 2021. Mr. McDaniel, age 78, was the beloved husband of Eloise Hambright McDaniel, his precious wife of 58 years, whom he married on June 30, 1962.  The couple have two children: son, Chris McDaniel (Cecelia) and daughter, Tina McDaniel. Mr. McDaniel was Paw Paw to grandchildren Jessica Watson (Paul) of San Antonio, Texas; Sarah Lux (Dane) of Orlando, Florida; Savannah Powell (Brad), Hunter Wright, Jeremy Wright (Faith), Jared Wright, and Hayden Joy Wright, all of Blacksburg. He was great-grandfather to Grayson Watson and Paxton Wright.  Special to the family include Camden Clark, Payton Lester, Jonathan Daniel Sisk (God Son) of Blacksburg, and Lynn Nasato (God Daughter) of Dallas, Texas.  Mr. McDaniel was preceded in death by his dear parents, Clarence and Maude Poteat McDaniel and his multiple siblings - sisters Thelma Lanier, Edith Walker, Mary Lee Tessner, and brothers Frank McDaniel and Dwight McDaniel.

Mr. McDaniel led a rich full life filled with family, friends, church, and work.  He graduated from Hickory Grove High School and was employed by Duke Power as a Hydro Plant Operator for 23 years.  He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was an active member of the Ed Moss Sunday School Class.

Mr. McDaniel loved helping others in his church and community, using his skills as a handyman who could fix almost anything.  He lovingly restored the old family homeplace and loved sitting and visiting on the porch.  His grandsons benefited the most from his Mr. Fix It skills, as he taught them well and often.  When Parkinson’s Disease robbed him of the ability to do work with his own hands, he was able to guide his "boys” and complete projects using their hands and his skills.  His granddaughters were his pride and joy.  Paw Paw loved taking them to get ice cream and trying to see who could win the most games of checkers.  Mr. McDaniel also enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle and always had a pocketful of bubble gum for the grandkids.  Mr. McDaniel and his wife and family loved living on the banks of the Broad River.  He spent many evenings by the river watching his grandchildren swim and taking them for rides on the barge.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 27 from 6:00- 8:00 PM at White Columns Funeral Home in Blacksburg, SC. Services for Mr. McDaniel will be held at Hopewell Baptist Church in Blacksburg, SC, on Tuesday, December 28 at 3:00 PM.  He will be laid to rest in the mausoleum at Clingman Memorial in Blacksburg, SC.  The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice
