Jennie Rae (Surratt) Clayton

 Jennie Rae Surratt Clayton, 76, of Blacksburg, SC passed away, Monday, November 7th, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, Spartanburg, SC. She was the wife of Rev Joseph (Joe) Clayton and daughter of the late Jennings Ray & Nell Hamm Surratt. Left to cherish her memory in addition to her husband are a daughter, Ann Marie Robinson (Glenn) of Greenville, SC, and a son, Joseph "Allen" Clayton Jr. (Tammy) of Hickory, NC. Her grandchildren Bethany Clayton Lake (Zach), Lauren Wells, Julia Wells, Bailey Clayton, & Brandon Wells and her great-grandchild Mason Lake. A sister, Marion Johnston (Jesse) of Athens, Ga. and a brother, Clark Surratt (Jan) of Columbia, SC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Joy Abrams (Floyd) and Karen Surratt.

Mrs. Clayton was a graduate of Clinton High School, class of 1963, and a bachelor's degree from Lander University. She served the Lord as a Pastor's wife, church pianist, music teacher and as a substitute teacher. She was a member of Cherokee Falls Baptist Church and served as an adult women's Bible teacher.  Her ministry gave her the opportunity over the years to be at these churches: Nazareth Baptist in Blacksburg, SC, Lowry's Baptist in Chester, SC, Juniper Bay Baptist in Conway, SC, Pine Grove Baptist in Sumter, SC, Steadman Baptist in Leesville, SC and Salem Baptist in Saluda, SC.

Receiving of Family & Friends will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 121 W Cherokee St., in Blacksburg, SC from 10 - 11 am with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service to follow, with Rev. Tim Knotts, Rev. Antonio Duarte' and Rev. Frank Shivers officiating.
