JD Harris Obituary

JD Harris, 83, of Gaffney, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 22nd, at his residence. A native of Cherokee County, the son of the late Thomas Walter Harris, Sr. and Mary Wood Harris Black. He is the husband of Joyce Ann McDaniel Harris celebrating 61 years of marriage. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Mr. Harris retired after serving 20 years, as a Jet Airplane mechanic at Shaw Air Force Base, where he received the Air Force Longevity Service award with 4 oakleaf clusters and the Air Force Good Conduct medal with 3 oakleaf clusters and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. He then went on to work for Widenhouse VW Mazda, as a mechanic  for another 20 years before retiring. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, Gaffney and enjoyed working on cars and yard work in his leisure time.

In addition to his wife, left to cherish his memory, is daughter Janet Sellars (Bobby) and son, Billy Harris (Sarah), granddaughter, Megan Harris and great granddaughter, Ruby Nicole Harris, all of Gaffney.  Also included is his sister, Betty Ruth Simpson, North Highland, CA as well as many other friends and extended family.

He is predeceased by a brother, Thomas Walter Harris, Jr. along with his parents.

The family will receive friends, Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 2:00pm at Hopewell Baptist Church, with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 3:00pm, with Reverends Scott Peterson and Lewis Batchelor officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers serving are Warren Harrison, Kenny Turney, Jerry "Shad" McDaniel, Brent Gregory, Lane Harris, and Mike Black.

Memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice, 212 E. Floyd Baker Blvd, Gaffney, SC 29340.

Those wishing to pay their respects prior to the service time, may do so Tuesday, November 24, 2020 from 9:00-12:45, at the Funeral Home.
