Irene Hambright Gold, age 94, of Blacksburg, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025. A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late James Albert Hambright and Ora Ann Peeler Hambright. Mrs. Gold was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Audley Gold Jr.
Mrs. Gold was of the Christian faith. A retired educator, she taught in the Cherokee County School District for 28 years as a Reading-Math teacher. There was nothing she loved more than being with her family.
Mrs. Gold is survived by a son, Dr. Daniel Audley Gold III (Caroline) of Greenville, SC; a daughter, Jeanne Gold Forrester (Ken) of Taylors, SC, and three grandchildren; Cpt. Benjamin Daniel Gold (Elizabeth) of Quantico, VA, Emily-Merrin Leamy Stearns (Scott) of Taylors, SC, and David Alexander Gold of Greenville, SC. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gold was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel Audley Gold II; four brothers, Aaron Daniel Hambright, Kyrk Hambright, Davis Hambright, and George Hambright; and five sisters, Ruby H. Manning, Artie H. Owens, Beatrice Hambright, Pearle Hughey, and Ruth Destaffano.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 16th, 2025, from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. at White Columns Funeral Home in Blacksburg, SC. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Mountain View Cemetery, officiated by Dr. Wayne Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cherokee Children’s Home or the charity of one’s choice.
