We called her “Mama.” Geraldine Parker Martin walked through Heaven’s Gate on April 10, 2021, where she rejoiced with Jesus, family, and acquaintances. Mama to Alan Martin (Chester, SC), Janet Bittner (Moore, SC), and Jeffrey Martin (Blacksburg, SC), she was a woman of great strength and courage as she raised us on her own. We were her world. She gave us boundaries, correction, and love, and instilled morals and values with the hope that we would become good people. We always knew she was there for us-she was consistent. Her parents were Cletus Parker and Theresa Peeler Parker. Her surviving siblings include Thelma Ham (Boyd) of Blacksburg, Carolyn Stewart (Fred) of York, and Lewis Parker (Judy) of Benton, Arkansas. Son-in-law Chip was another son to her, and he thought of her as a second mother. He respected and adored her. Mama was preceded in death by Curtis Parker, Rena Martin, Amelia Zebroski, Dwight Parker, Cecil Davidson, Theresa Davis, and Lois Beaver. Grandchildren Caroline Keller and John Paul Bittner called her “Mawmaw.” Caroline was especially close to her and showed great commitment and care for her in her last year as they spent countless hours enjoying nature, watching old tv shows, and playing with technology. Grandson John Paul Bittner, equally close, also visited his Mawmaw and enjoyed Face Time and phone calls which always lifted her spirits. Caroline’s husband Austin loved Mawmaw and sacrificed in many ways toward her comfort, company, and support. Special family friend Lisa McEntyre covered Mama with prayers over the years as well as flowers and things to make a girl feel pretty. She filled the role of two parents; there now exists a huge hole in our new normal, but it is because of her belief in Jesus that we know it is not her end.
