Audrey Clara McDaniel, 92, of Blacksburg, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 8, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
The daughter of Luther and Irene McDaniel, Audrey was born on April 22, 1926, a member of the Greatest Generation. She married the love of her life, A.Z., upon his completion of service in World War II and created a Godly home for their six children. They were married for 70 years.
Audrey worked in textiles at Limestone Manufacturing for more than 25 years and later, in the shoe department at Hamrick’s, Inc. on Cherokee Avenue in Gaffney. She made many friends over the years of her employment and remained close to them after her retirement at age 81.
Audrey was a lifelong member of Hopewell Baptist Church and was active in the Senior Adult Women’s Sunday School Class. Always thinking of others, she was a faithful encourager to those who were sick or bereaved. She considered it an honor to intercede for others in prayer. Over the years, she sent countless meals, desserts, and cards to those in her community. She made thousands of phone calls just to let her friends and family know that she was thinking of them. She always had a kind word to say about everyone. Despite physical ailments, her mind remained sharp until the very end. She never forgot to send a birthday card to anyone in her family, even though they numbered more than seventy. She truly exemplified the selfless, unconditional love of Christ.
She is survived by five children: daughter Judy (Barry) Hamrick of Gaffney; son Ronnie (Janice) McDaniel of Blacksburg; daughter Christy (Jim) Touchberry of Greenwood; son Tony (Renita) McDaniel of Blacksburg; son Tracy (Karen) McDaniel of Blacksburg; as well as brother Nubert (Ann) McDaniel of Blacksburg and brother-in-law Jack(Frances) Little of Blacksburg. A.Z. and Audrey were blessed with seventeen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, a beloved son, Kenny; her sister, Frances Little; and her brothers, Eugene, Tommy, and Marvin McDaniel; as well as three grandchildren: Natali and Shannon Hamrick and Morgan McDaniel.
Philippians 2:3-5 says “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.” Audrey had the heart of a faithful servant and lived her life putting the needs of others above her own. What a joy it is to know that her faith has become sight and that she has heard the Lord say, “Well done, my child.”
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at noon at Hopewell Baptist Church, 511 Old Chester Road, Blacksburg, SC 29702. The funeral will follow at 2 pm with Reverends Eddie Bolin, Lewis Batchelor and Virgil Hampton officiating.
